The Standing Conference of Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the Americas(SCOBA), established in 1960 with Archbishop Iakovos as Chairman brings together the canonical hierarchs of the Orthodox jurisdictions in the United States and Canada. The purpose of the Conference is to make the ties of unity among the canonical Orthodox Churches and administrations stronger and more visible.

The hierarchs meet twice annually for discussions and decisions on various matters. SCOBA's Study and Planning Commission, chaired by the Ecumenical Officer, supervises the activities of all the other SCOBA commissions and committees and prepares the agenda for the meetings. The other SCOBA commissions and committees include: the Ecumenical Commission; the Orthodox Christian Education Commission; the Scouting Commission; the Communications Commission; the Hospitals and Military Chaplaincy Commission; the Social and Moral Issues Task Force; the Liturgical Translation Commission; International Orthodox Christian Charities; and the Mission and Evangelism Commission.
